ISO 7436 - Slotted set screws with cup point

ISO 7436 is the international standard for slotted set screws with a cup point — the standard exporters and international OEMs quote when their drawings are written to ISO rather than DIN. The screw is headless and screwdriver-driven, and its end is recessed to form a sharp circular rim that bites a small ring into the shaft to lock it. ISO 7436 spans a broader size range than the German DIN 438, running from M1.6 up to M12, covering the very small sizes used in electronics as well as mid sizes for general assembly. Size Coverage and Interchangeability

Where DIN 438 is commonly listed from M3 to M10, ISO 7436 formally includes the smaller M1.6, M2 and M2.5 sizes and the larger M12 — useful when a single ISO callout has to cover a wide screw family. Within their common sizes an ISO 7436 screw and a DIN 438 screw are the same physical part; the standard number is what changes on the drawing and certificate. We can mark and certify to either. The rim concentrates the tightening force into a narrow circle, locking strongly on a plain round shaft with no need to drill a seat; where a positive peg-in-hole location is wanted, use the ISO 7435 long dog point instead.

Why Brass

Brass ISO 7436 is used where a dependable lock has to combine with corrosion resistance, non-magnetic behaviour or electrical contact — small instrument and electronics collars, meter and terminal assemblies, and marine or decorative hardware. CW614N forms a clean, concentric cup rim even in the smallest sizes. For a deeper bite on hardened steel shafts under heavy vibration, the same ISO 7436 geometry is available in steel or stainless.
