DIN 427 Slotted headless screws with flat point
DIN 427 is a slotted headless screw that differs from the ordinary set screw in one important way: it is only partly threaded. A defined length of thread sits at the point end, and the rest of the shank is a plain cylindrical body ending in a flat, chamfered point. That plain shank lets DIN 427 act as a short pivot, spindle or bearing journal that also threads into place. What the Part-Threaded Body Does
Because only the tip is threaded, the plain shank can turn inside a bore, carry a lever, or serve as a locating spindle while the threaded nose anchors the screw. The flat chamfered point seats squarely without biting, so it clamps or locates gently against the mating surface. This makes DIN 427 useful where a small, headless, adjustable pin is needed rather than a full-length locking screw. Why Brass
Brass DIN 427 is chosen for light pivots and adjustable spindles in instruments, valves, electrical gear and decorative fittings, where the plain shank benefits from brass’s smooth bearing behaviour and corrosion resistance, and where non-magnetic material is required. CW614N turns a clean plain shank with a concentric thread and crisp slot. Steel or stainless versions are available where higher strength or a harder journal is needed.
