DIN 553 Slotted set screws with cone point

DIN 553 is the slotted headless set screw that ends in a sharp cone. The pointed tip concentrates the tightening force onto a tiny area, so it either seats into a matching drilled dimple in the shaft or bites into a softer shaft directly. That gives DIN 553 the strongest resistance to rotation of the slotted set screws — the reason it is chosen for settings meant to stay put. What the Cone Point Does

The cone acts almost like a centre-punch: driven against a plain shaft it forms its own seat, and driven into a pre-drilled 90° dimple it locates precisely and resists both turning and sliding. Because the contact is a point, it does leave a mark — so cone point is for near-permanent positioning rather than frequent adjustment. If you need to re-position often, choose a flat point (DIN 551); for positive location in a hole, a long dog point (DIN 417) is used instead.

Why Brass

Brass DIN 553 suits electrical and instrument work where a positive, vibration-resistant lock is wanted without magnetic or corrosion problems: transformer and meter assemblies, terminal set-and-forget positioning, and non-magnetic instruments. CW614N takes a clean, concentric cone in high-speed turning. Where the cone must bite a hardened steel shaft, we can supply the same screw in steel or stainless.
